There are two seperate sides of this review. First, the camp itself. The "camp" was held at a small church, which was fine with us. Each week was themed (olympics, jungle, etc) and activities for the week revolved around that theme. During Olympics week, they played a bunch of relay-type games, for example. They had water play days several times a week, which consisted of a kiddie pool, sprinkler, and a slip-n-slide. This was cool, too. The lead counselors were great. They were probably early twenties (and one older lady), and I felt completely comfortable leaving my son with them. In the afternoons when I picked him up, there were a number of younger girls (high school age, maybe 16). I heard one or two of them address the children in the manner an older sibling would address a younger sibling (with exasperation and frustration and anger). I think these particular girls were either too young or not suited for dealing with young children. The other aspect of this review is on the administrative side. There was terrible communication from whoever was in charge at the YMCA and the folks at the camp. They didn't even have my son on the list for the second week! Also, when we reserved our son's spot, we gave them our credit card info over the phone, with the expectation that they would charge it the Friday before each week (this is what we were told). This worked fine the first week, but the second week, there was never a charge. I dropped him off Monday morning, and was told we had to pay our bill by the end of the day or he couldn't come back. This began a frustrating back and forth that was complicated by the power going out at the YMCA. Anyway, long story short, we won't be taking him back for Kamp Kermit. We love the YMCA, but there are definitely improvements to be made here.
